Blackburn Rovers midfielder Barry Ferguson has finally completed his move back to Rangers for a fee of £4.5m. The Scottish international signed a five-and-a-half year deal.

Ferguson told his club’s official website: “The last month has been hard work. I went through a lot of emotions as I thought the deal was never going to go through but it’s brilliant to be home.

“I went through all the proper channels and even handed in a written transfer request but it wasn’t until just an hour or so before the window shut that I really knew that I was back at Rangers.

“As soon as I knew Rangers were interested in having me back I wanted to make it happen.

“I have been avidly following the club since I have been away. I looked at the web site, I got the Rangers News delivered and I watched Rangers TV. For me Rangers is such a huge part of my life.

“I missed the club so much and when I grabbed that jersey again it felt so good.

“I honestly felt it was dead last Thursday or Friday but Rangers never gave up and that means so much to me.

“The chairman showed his commitment and I think he has been pulling his hair out but finally we got the deal done.”

Spurs complete Reid signing

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the move for Nottingham Forest winger Andy Reid.

Reid told his new club’s official website: “I am just delighted to get it done.

“It has been talked about for a long time and now I am thrilled that it has all gone through. I am looking forward to playing Premiership football.

“I had no hesitation over signing, Tottenham is such a big club and I like the way the chairman, Frank (Arnesen) and Martin (Jol) have transformed things. They are bringing lots of young players through and I just want to be part of that.”

He added: “It is important on the international front as well. If you are playing Premiership football it gives you more of a chance to play every game on the international scene.

“My main priority at the moment is to try and win a place in the Spurs team. I have watched the team and have been very impressed, it is a young team developing and I feel they are getting better all the time.

“I am excited and looking forward to coming in and meeting all the lads for training. I haven’t spoken to Robbie (Keane) yet, but I will do. I’m good mates with him and Stephen Kelly as well.”

Spurs director on Forest targets

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s agreement with Nottingham Forest over the fee for Andy Reid and Michael Dawson, Spurs’ Sporting director Frank Arnesen has commented on why the North London club have made moves for the duo.

Arnesen told his club’s official website: “Andy Reid is a well-known Irish international. He’s a very good player and the type of player we don’t have in the squad.

“He can play as a left winger, down the right side or just behind the striker so his arrival complements the squad. He’s a good footballer with a nice left foot and a technical player who can read the game well.

“Michael Dawson is a great prospect, has captained England Under-21s and outside his obvious playing talents, has a leadership quality in his personality.

“Once again these are young players who will not only add to our squad now but will take us forward in the next couple of years.”

Aston Villa manager on Djemba-Djemba

Aston Villa manager David O’Leary has spoken about his new signing Eric Djemba-Djemba, who completed his £1.3m move from Manchester United earlier today.

O’Leary told his club’s official website: “They had plenty of people in for him and I’m just glad Sir Alex (Ferguson) let him come here.

“He talked well about the club and advised the lad in the nicest way that it was a good move for him. He’s a lad of 23 who has chosen to come here and I’m very grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for talking well about us.”

He added: “Of course this should give everyone a boost. For £1.3million he offered good value and I’ve tried to spend it the best way I can.

“He’s a lad that will improve our squad immensely and I think he’ll do a good job for us. I think he’ll give us aggression and ball-winning in midfield.

“We’ve only got Gavin McCann to do that job and when Gavin is out of the side, we miss him. I think both of them will play well together and it gives us competition in that position.”
