Preston North winger Eddie Lewis is hoping to sign a new contract at Deepdale. The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer.

Lewis told his club’s official website: “Things have been sort of put on the backburner until these games were finished and now that they are hopefully over the next few days we can let things settle down and then we can get back in to work, not only as far as I’m concerned but getting a few of the lads signed up for next season to give it a real push.”

Swindon winger to join Bristol City

Swindon Town winger Grant Smith has agreed a two-year pre-contract deal with Bristol City.

Grant told his new club’s official website: “It was an easy decision to make out of the clubs I was speaking to.

“Obviously I am sad to be leaving Swindon as well. It was a good club but certain financial decisions happened at the end.

“I was offered a new deal but only for one year. It was never for two years although there were reports about that. But that offer was never made.”

He added: “It is unbelievable!

“Someone was phoning every day when I was back home in Scotland, even though nothing was happening most of the time. It is nice to get my future sorted out and finally come here.

“Once Brian [Tinnion] told me about next season and his hopes of pushing forward it was an easy decision to make.

“He hopes to sign a few players this summer and the club has the foundations to do well next season. He’s looking to win the title straight away, rather than think about the play-offs.

“If everyone is pushing in the right direction hopefully that can happen.”

He continued: “This is a massive club. When I came to Ashton Gate with Swindon you knew you were playing a big game.

“It has big support and has come close to winning promotion on a few occasions, including missing the play-offs by a point last season.

“It is one of those clubs that deserve to be higher in league.”

Ipswich midfielder undecided on future

Ipswich Town midfielder Tommy Miller has admitted that he’s yet to decide on whether to sign a new deal at Portman Road or join Sunderland on a Bosman free transfer.

Miller said: “At this stage of my career, it’s a big, big decision for me.

“I am contracted to Ipswich until the end of June so technically I can’t move to another club before then anyway.

“I have got a lot of thinking to do and will bide my time before making a decision because it’s such a key time in my career.

“I’m getting married at the weekend and then I’m away on honeymoon for a few weeks so I’ll decide either when I get back or maybe while I’m away. It certainly won’t be before I go.”

On Sunderland’s interest, he added: “My father represents me. He’s been involved in the game a long time and has had talks with Sunderland and a move there does appeal to me.

“Sunderland are in the Premiership so there’s the challenge of playing on that stage and of course, it would mean a move back to the north where I come from.

“There is also interest from other clubs and obviously I’ve had an offer of a new contract at Ipswich.

“I’m quite pleased with the offer as well, it’s better than I thought it would be.

“I’ve certainly enjoyed my four years here so I’ve got to weigh up the options and take it from there but it’s not something I’m going to rush into.”

Meanwhile, striker Pablo Counago will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

Buffon not interested in Manchester United move

The agent of Gianluigi Buffon says that the Juventus ‘keeper is not interested in a move to Manchester United. The 27-year-old had been linked with a £35m move to Old Trafford.

Buffon’s agent Silvano Martina told Sky Sports: “It’s true Juventus have a habit of selling their top players when a proper offer comes in.

“But I don’t think they plan to sell Buffon, at least not for now.

“Anyway, in these situations a crucial role is played by the will of the player and Gigi is fully committed to Juventus, as the Bianconeri are one of the best three clubs in the world.”

He added: “Should Buffon one day decide to quit Juventus, that would be only for Real Madrid.

“That’s why I don’t think reports about Manchester United will come to anything real.”
