Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Rotherham United ‘keeper Mike Pollitt on a two-year deal.

Pollitt told his new club’s official website: “I’m delighted to have completed this deal and I’m really looking forward to mixing it in the Premiership this season.

“I’ve been in discussions with Wigan for a while now and there’s never been any doubt in my mind that this was a challenge I was going to accept. Obviously leaving Rotherham is wrench, particularly as I’ve had so many good times there and the people have been so good to me. However, at this stage in my career I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to join a club like Wigan Athletic, especially now they’re in the top flight.

“In John Filan they already have a top class keeper and for me he’s one of the best around. I know I’ll have to fight for my place in the first team but I’m prepared to be patient and will look forward to working closely with Filan and Gary Walsh to make sure the team does well this year.”

“He’s a fantastic young man, is very respectful and comes highly recommended.”

He added: “He first went to Arsenal as a striker, but Arsene Wenger saw him and converted him to a left back.

“He is still very flexible and he can play at left back, left midfield, right back, right midfield or even as a striker still.

“He will be training and playing with the first team and our players and that will hopefully help him and give him more experience.”

Hartlepool United have signed Cardiff City midfielder Lee Bullock on a free transfer.

Hartlepool manager Martin Scott told his club’s official website: “We are very pleased to sign Lee.

“He’s a player that Steve [Agnew] and myself know a lot about since his York days and more recently at Cardiff.

“He performed regularly in the Championship and there was lots of interest from other Clubs so it just shows what commitment we have here to keep the Club moving forward.

“It’s also another indication of the backing the Club has and I would like to thank IOR and Chairman Ken Hodcroft for their support on this signing.”

He added: “He gets box to box and can score goals. He’s big and strong and will certainly improve the squad, which is what we are always looking to do.”

Bullock said: “It’s brilliant. I can’t wait to get started on the new season now and get back in to training.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the lads and congratulating them on what they did last year and hopefully push on towards the Championship.

“There were other Clubs interested in me but I haven’t spoken to anybody else because I want to be part of Martin Scott and Steve Agnew’s plans here.”

He added: “I am a local lad and I was willing them on all the way – this Club is going places and I am sure lots of players will want to join, I certainly did.”
