Portsmouth have signed Uruguayan striker Dario Silva from Sevilla on a two-year deal.

Silva told his new club’s official website: “I have played in both Italy and Spain which are very high standard and I rate the Premier League up with them.

“Also I have heard that the Pompey fans are crazy and I know if I can please them with what I have to offer so I hope they will be crazy about me.

“I am very pleased to sign for Pompey and my game is all about hard work and scoring goals and I will offer a lot of both and am looking forward to pulling on the blue shirt.”

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said: “He is a top quality striker who will give us that extra needed ingredient up front and around goal.

“He is one of a number of strikers from around Europe that we’ve had our eye on and we have stuck at it right up until the deadline day and reaped our reward with this player.

“Dario has played at the highest level in Italy and Spain so the Premier League will not daunt him.”

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric said: “Dario has a high reputation with his prowess and I’m delighted he has signed to fufil a position that we were light in.

“There is always disappointment when you lose out on some of your targets but more than enough compensation when you eventually land one of them. Dario was one of the strikers high on our list and he was there for one reason – he scores goals and has played in the highest of company.

“In the last few days we have added the offensive midfield man we needed and brought in another striker. It has taken a lot of patience and hard work but now I hope to see the rewards of that as we look forward and move up the league.”
