Rangers duo could leave

Rangers manager Alex McLeish says he would listen to offers for striker Steven Thompson and defender Jose Karl Pierre-Fanfan during next month’s transfer window.

McLeish said: “It’s tough for the strikers like Tommo [Thompson] who are not starting the games but we need a squad. If it came to the end of January and there were people interested then we would listen.

“But I am in no hurry to get rid of him. I think Tommo would look at the situation and ask where he is in the pecking order.

“As I said to Fanfan, some players may not fancy the situation of not being first or even second choice.

“You just have to wait and see what unfolds. I don’t know if he would like to move on but I think he would like to play regular football.”

Striker eyeing Bolton exit

Chivas target striker Jared Borgetti is keen on returning to Mexico after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular at Bolton Wanderers.

Borgetti told Mediotiempo: “I am worried because I haven’t been given the chances I expected for playing in England.

“I have been predominantly sitting on the bench and playing only a few minutes in some games.

“I think that I have had some good performances because I have scored some goals, but I need to play more frequently because I want to be prepared for the World Cup.”

He added: “I don’t care in which team I play for in Mexico, I can wear any shirt, it is all the same.

“All I want to do is to have the chance to play and keep scoring goals because that is all I know how to do.”

Spurs midfielder wants out

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pedro Mendes wants to leave the London club and is firmly laying the blame on manager Martin Jol.

Mendes told The Mirror: “I have made a decision that does not please me, but I want to keep playing at the highest level and if that is not at Spurs then the best thing is to leave.

“I am disappointed and frustrated with what has happened to me and I really do not understand it.

“Nobody has given me an explanation.

“Martin Jol has not said anything and does not speak with me about this matter and that’s what really hurts me.

“I have a clear conscience because I do my work. I know that something has happened, but I don’t know what.”

Reading agree fee for Bristol City defender

Bristol City have agreed an undisclosed fee to sell left-back Scott Golbourne to Reading.

City chairman Steve Lansdown told his club’s official website: “Reading approached us with a deal, which I discussed fully with manager Gary Johnson and my fellow director Keith Dawe.

“While we are not in the business of selling our best young players, it was felt the offer was not only a good one for the football club but also one we had to make Scott aware of.

“The offer has now been accepted and Scott is free to speak with Reading. If the deal goes through we will be very sad to see Scott leave because he has developed well during his time at the club.

“However, it’s a win-win situation because it gives Scott the chance to play at Championship, and possibly Premiership level, whilst helping achieve what we want to going forwards.”
