Celtic striker John Hartson has announced that he will be at Parkhead next season.

Hartson told the Sunday Mail: “I spoke with my family about staying with Celtic for another year and they gave me their full support.

“It is a huge weight off my mind to know exactly what I’m doing.

“There has been speculation for months that I might be going here, there or the next place.

“But this puts it all to bed – I’m staying where I am. There is no doubt the manager has been influential in my decision. He made it clear in a meeting with my agent he wanted me to stay and I was pleased to hear that.

“Now I can play the remaining games this season and enjoy the summer break without any speculation.”

Fowler’s agent optimistic over new Liverpool deal

The agent of Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler says he has a ‘good feeling’ that the 31-year-old will sign a new deal at Anfield.

Fowler’s agent George Scott told BBC Sport: “Robbie wants to stay and I’ve got a good feeling about it.

“He loves the club and with a really good pre-season under his belt Robbie is hoping to be even sharper for next season.

“It’s a case of wait and see but I hoping something can be sorted out and I know Robbie is very keen to stay at Anfield.

“He is very happy being back ‘home’, he’s scoring goals and training hard and I’m sure it’s helping him playing again at his boyhood club.”

He added: “We know there is interest from elsewhere and I think any team in the Premiership would be happy to have him.

“He’s only 31 and when you think of what he can do at this level I’d expect someone to come in.

“But Robbie’s priority is to get a new deal with Liverpool and hopefully the club may feel it’s a case of ‘we know what we’ve got in him’.

“You never know sometimes how new players will settle in – but with Robbie they’ve got someone who’s eager to play for them.

“He may not have been happy to sit on the bench elsewhere but at Liverpool, he would be still be glad to come on and do a job – that’s how much it means to him being there.”

Fulham set to sign Wigan midfielder

Wigan Athletic midfielder Jimmy Bullard has agreed to join Fulham on a four-year deal from the 8th of May.

Wigan manager Paul Jewell told his club’s official website: “Jimmy’s agent has alerted clubs as to the figure any prospective club needs to bid, and in the end it’s Jimmy’s decision to go.

“If a player decides to leave, it is best if he does. I have always said there’s no point keeping unhappy players, or at least players who want to move. It’s all come out of the blue. The timing is not the best but I understand that Fulham wanted to move quickly and not lose their man.”

On Bullard’s get-out clause, he said: “He would not have signed the new contract had it not been in there, and the alternative was having him walk away for nothing when his old contract expired at the end of this season. We had the same situation with Nathan Ellington and a similar clause was removed from Pascal Chimbonda’s contract earlier this season.”

He added: “Jimmy is sad to go but he sees this as the next step in his career.

“We don’t want him to go but wish him all the best for the future.”

He continued: “If we had decided to match Fulham’s wage offer, then maybe we could have kept hold of him but I didn’t want to set a dangerous precedent and be held to ransom. That would be extremely unhealthy.

“We’re getting ten times what we paid for him. Jimmy’s been fantastic for us, he’s not missed a game, he’s a great lad but once someone says he wants to leave, and there’s a clause in his contract to say he can, what can we do?

“He’s a good player, but so was Arjan de Zeeuw when he left the first time, so was Jason De Vos, so was Roy Carroll, so was Nathan Ellington. We got over those disappointments and came back stronger.”
