Coventry manager in quit threat

Coventry City manager Micky Adams has threatened to resign after his club’s own fans chanted ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ when he brought Wayne Andrews on as substitute.

Striker Andrews promptly scored the winner in Coventry’s 1-0 win at Barnsley after only a minute after coming on.

Adams said: “If they don’t want me at the helm they should just keep singing songs like that, because that is the quick way to get rid of managers.”

He added: “The one mistake I made was failing to acknowledge our supporters when I left the pitch.

“For that I apologise and I hold my hands up, because I should have thanked everyone for making the trip up to Barnsley.”

Dundee United name Levein as manager

Dundee United have appointed Raith Rovers manager Craig Levein as successor to Craig Brewster, who left the SPL club yesterday.

Levein told his new club’s official website: “I am delighted to join Dundee United and to be back in the SPL. I wish to put on record my thanks to Raith Rovers over the last few weeks, but when [chairman] Mr [Eddie] Thompson spoke with me about this job I felt I had to take the opportunity to come here. I fully appreciate the scale of the task before me but I am confident that I can help Dundee United to climb the league. I am under no illusions that there will be an easy quick fix, but I would not have taken the job if I did not believe I could make a difference nor would I have considered coming to Tannadice if I did not believe that there was a determination to succeed within the Club.

“I have some experience of managing change at clubs and I’d like to assure United fans that based on my previous experiences and my initial impressions at Tannadice, the club is in far better shape than some people appear to think. The infrastructure is sound, the budget is reasonable, there is a determination to succeed and the playing squad is better than the league position suggests. There is a lot of hard work ahead but with the support of everyone with Dundee United’s best interests at heart, I am confident for the future.”

Beckham staying at Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham has dismissed talk of a January exit from the Spanish giants and insists that contract talks are still on-going.

Beckham said: “I am not considering any move at the minute.

“I have always said I am happy here and I’m not looking to move my family from here.

“Since the president Ramon Calderon has come in, he has made his feelings clear to me and he says he wants me to stay.

“There hasn’t been a proposal yet, there have been talks with my representatives. The contract talks have been going on since last season but there have been a lot of changes at the club – and they only started up again three weeks ago.

“This season we have had one meeting and we will take it from there. That is where we are at the moment.”

He concluded: “If it gets to January, nothing changes. I am not leaving. I am not going anywhere.”

Dundee United manager leaves

Dundee United manager Craig Brewster has left the SPL club by mutual consent.

United director Derek Robertson told his club’s official website: “Following detailed discussions, it was agreed that it was now in the best interests of Dundee United, Craig Brewster and Malky Thomson to part on amicable and mutually respectful terms.

“We are hugely disappointed that Craig Brewster’s latest spell with the Club should end in this way. However, the future of Dundee United is dependent on securing a position based on results and all parties recognise that results and performances have been less than acceptable and less than Dundee United supporters deserve.

“Craig Brewster leaves the Club with his integrity intact and we would like to take this opportunity to wish him and Malky every success in their future careers.”

Brewster added: “I wish to put on record my gratitude to the directors, coaching staff, players, all Dundee United support staff and, in particular, Dundee United supporters for their loyal and continuous backing. I wish Dundee United every success in the future.”
