Charlton ‘keeper set for Danish return

Charlton Athletic ‘keeper Stephan Andersen will be joining Brondby in January.

Charlton manager Les Reed told his club’s official website: “I’m sad to see Steph go, but glad that he will be given an opportunity to play regular first-team football at a high level.

“It’s been frustrating for Stephan as Scott Carson has been in outstanding form this season, and there have therefore been limited opportunities for him to play in the first team.

“It’s better for him and his own career development to take an opportunity like this and it also allows the club to move on with Scott and Thomas Myhre as our first-choice keepers, and creates an element of opportunity for Darren Randolph, who is potentially an outstanding keeper, to move up the pecking order.

“Darren recently played for the Republic of Ireland B team and will very soon be required to play at a higher level. We were very lucky to have the quality of keepers we’ve got, and we wish Stephan every success in kickstarting his career back home in Denmark.”

Celtic midfielder set for January move?

The agent of Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson has revealed that the 24-year-old could be on the move during January’s transfer window.

Pearson’s agent Willie McKay told the Daily Record: “[Celtic manager] Gordon Strachan has reluctantly agreed to let Stephen go in January if the price is right. Gordon understands Stephen’s situation and it was a great meeting.”

He added: “The Celtic manager knows Stephen is a great professional, who has always been popular within Parkhead and among the Celtic fans.

“But Gordon can’t guarantee him a game every week and, while he would like to keep him at the club, he recognises Stephen needs first-team football.”

Novo denies wanting Rangers exit

Rangers’ Spanish striker Nacho Novo has denied that he wants to return to his homeland.

Novo told his club’s official website: “Why would I say I wanted to leave Rangers when I am back in the team and having a great spell again?

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw these reports. I’m really angry.

“Yes, I did speak with Radio Marca, but I talk to them quite a bit. They asked me if I wanted to return to Spain one day and I said that I did because like any person I would like to go back to my homeland one day – but not at the end of this season.

“I am trying to win a new contract with Rangers not leave them. In fact, it would be my dream to play here for the rest of my career. I love this club.

“I can’t believe that a story like this would come out at this time. It’s crazy.”

Rangers striker eyes Spanish return

Rangers striker Nacho Novo has ruled out making a move to rivals Celtic but says he wants to return to Spain.

Novo told Radio Marca: “I hope to return to Spain soon.

“I have been away five years and it starts to feel like too much time. Despite this, I am happy in Glasgow.

“There have lately been rumours of my signing for Celtic. That would never happen. Rangers have behaved well with me and I wouldn’t do that to the fans.”

He added: “It would delight me to return to Spain, but the problem is they always value the foreigners more than their home players.

“I am rated higher abroad than in my home country, but I have much desire to return to Spanish football.”
