Mansfield Town have swooped to sign Stevenage Borough midfielder Gary Mills on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old told his club’s official website: “I see Mansfield as a Football League club. I was very impressed with what the manager had to say to me. He was totally honest and I know what he expects from both me and the squad.

“I already know Rob Duffy and Luke Graham, and Rob told me that this was the place to be. But in truth, it didn’t need much selling.”

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena has revealed that he’s making a summer switch to Portsmouth.

The 28-year-old South African told Rovers’ official website: “I can leave in peace knowing that I’ve been honest to the team, I’ve been loyal and the team has been loyal to me.

“I am going to Portsmouth, I am going there to play, it is what every player wants to do.

“I have decided it is time to move on for me. As we know we have a World Cup in South Africa and I have to play, I have to play week in, week out.

“So it is going to be a good challenge for me going down to Portsmouth and we’ll see how it goes.

“The good thing for me is that I have three years with Pompey and I’ll be going there to do my job, as I did my job in Blackburn.

“The fans have been fantastic for me in Blackburn and I’ll never forget it.”

Huddersfield’s Cadamarteri set for Dundee United

Huddersfield Town forward Danny Cadamarteri has agreed to join Dundee United on a Bosman free transfer.

The 29-year-old former Everton player will sign a two-year deal with the SPL club.

United manager Craig Levein told his club’s official website: “Danny can play as a striker and a winger so brings versatility and experience to the team.

“He not only provides width to the team but also pace and power to the attack, adding to the options already available. He also provides experience, which is very important given the relatively young squad we have here at Tannadice. After a very bright start, his career has stalled a bit recently, but I believe that his best years have still to come. In my view he will strengthen an already impressive squad for next season’s campaign.”

Aston Villa manager on Barry sale

Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill says he would consider selling midfielder Gareth Barry if a bid came in from a club in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old, who was a target for Liverpool last summer, is out of contract next summer.

O’Neill told BBC WM: “We would like him to stay but we understand that he’s been at the club for 11 years.

“If someone came in with the offer of the Champions League, then that’s something that we would look at.”

He added: “Even if he ran his contract down I don’t think that’s something that would concern us greatly and that might show that we would like him to stay.

“It’s not a matter of us wanting to cash in because he’s in his final year. If he said he was going to run it down and see it through, I would be delighted.”
