Anelka extends Chelsea stay

French striker Nicolas Anelka has extended his contract at Stamford Bridge until 2012.

The 31-year-old joined the London club from Bolton Wanderers two-and-a-half years ago in a £15m move.

Anelka told his club’s official website: “When I first came to Chelsea I wanted to stay much longer than what I did in the past with other clubs.

“It is a big club, you play with big players and I like this club, I like London. There is no need to move anymore and so I am very glad to sign a new contract and I know we will play in big games and win titles. I am very glad.”

New deal for Blackburn’s Olsson

Sweden defender/midfielder Martin Olsson has signed a new five-year contract at Blackburn Rovers.

The 22-year-old joined the Premiership club from Hogaborg in January 2006 for a nominal fee.

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce told his club’s official website: “Martin was outstanding for us last season, a young player who came in and made a magnificent contribution. He has really started to understand the game and now knows how best to use his talents to the team’s advantage.

“I am absolutely delighted that another of our young starlets has pledged his long-term future to the Rovers – that can only be good news, very good news indeed.”

Manchester City sign Swindon Town youngster

Manchester City have raided League One to sign 16-year-old winger Alex Henshall from Swindon Town for an undisclosed fee.

The head of City’s Academy, Mark Allen, told his club’s official website: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to the Academy. He will provide excellent balance on the left hand side of the field and is an exciting addition to our existing group of players. We are looking forward to helping him develop even further following on from the good start to his career he had at Swindon Town.”

QPR raid Sheffield United for ‘keeper

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock has bought ‘keeper Paddy Kenny from his old club Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old, who was suspended last season for nine months after being tested positive for ephedrine, has penned a three-year contract at Loftus Road.

Warnock told his club’s official website: “Paddy’s a very good goalkeeper. I rate him very, very highly and genuinely believe he’s one of the best around at this level.

“Yes, he’s made mistakes in his life in the past, but he’s a straight-forward guy and I think this is the right time for him and his family to leave Sheffield and focus on the next chapter of his career.

“I know he’ll relish the challenge of helping us achieve our goals.”
