New Wolves deal for Welsh ‘keeper

Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘keeper Wayne Hennessey has penned a new five-year contract at Molineux.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy told his club’s official website: “I’m delighted that Wayne has signed his new contract.

“We are blessed to have three very good goalkeepers at the club who are currently fit and battling for the position and Wayne is somebody who I believe is a top class young keeper who will also get better.

“This is really good news for the club to have secured one of its best young players and one who will be keen to play a big part in the future.”

Manchester City sign second Toure

Manchester City have signed Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure for a reported fee of £27.5m.

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international, who joins his brother Kolo at Eastlands, has put pen to a five-year contract.

City manager Roberto Mancini told his club’s official website: “This is another fantastic signing for Manchester City, and I am very pleased Yaya has joined us, he is a very good player.

“Everyone knows Yaya is a player that we have admired for a long time, and we would like to welcome him to Manchester City. He has played at the top level with Barcelona and I am sure he his experience and ability will be very important for us.”

Liverpool midfielder makes Chelsea move

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has completed his transfer to Chelsea for a reported £5.5m fee.

The 30-year-old Israeli international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Benayoun told his new club’s official website: “I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful.”

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti added: “We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season.”

Liverpool appoint Hodgson

Liverpool have named Fulham manager Roy Hodgson as Rafael Benitez’s successor.

The 62-year-old, who has penned a three-year contract at Anfield, told his new club’s official website: “This is the biggest job in club football and I’m honoured to be taking on the role of manager of Britain’s most successful football club. I look forward to meeting the players and the supporters and getting down to work at Melwood.”
