David de Gea completes Manchester United transfer

Manchester United have made their third big name signing after acquiring Phil Jones and Ashley Young from Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa respectively.

They’ve signed goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid on a five-year contract.

The 20-year-old Spaniard told his new club’s official website: “I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here.

“When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy.

“I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability.

“It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I’m keen to do my best and show what I can do.”

Leicester City sign Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester City have signed Leeds United ‘keeper Kasper Schmeichel for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old, who is the son of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, has put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

City’s football director Andrew Neville told his club’s official website: “[Leicester manager] Sven [Goran Eriksson] knows Kasper extremely well and regards him very highly so we are delighted to have brought him to the Club.

“He has already made a big impression both domestically and internationally and is another player at a good age for our long-term objectives.”

Ashley Young makes Manchester United move

Manchester United have completed the signing of Aston Villa winger Ashley Young on a five-year contract.

The fee has not been officially disclosed, however reports say that it could be between £15m and £20m.

Young told MUTV: “There’s a lot of competition for places at the club. If you are in the team there is always going to be someone biting away at your heels trying to get in.

“I’m going to be coming in looking to establish myself in the team. I know it is going to be a challenge, but I’m up for that challenge.

“It is a fantastic team. The club always produces fantastic players. They have that winning mentality.

“I hope to be a part of that this season. I can’t wait to get started.”

He added: “To come and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, it is an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down, to play with such great players that play for this club and to hopefully become part of the history of winning the 20th title.

“As a child I always wanted to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and I’ve got that opportunity now. I’ve just got to take it with two hands.

“I’m really excited about playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I just want to get out there and start training now.”

Sunderland sign duo

Former Birmingham City midfielder Sebastian Larsson and Coventry City ‘keeper Keiren Westwood are set to join Sunderland next month on free transfers.

Sunderland said in a statement on their official website: “Sunderland AFC have agreed terms with Sebastian Larsson and Keiren Westwood, who will both officially sign on July 1.

“Sunderland AFC can confirm that terms have been agreed with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and Swedish international midfielder Sebastian Larsson.”
