Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Birmingham City defender Roger Johnson for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old centre-half has put pen to paper to a four-year contract at Molineux.

Johnson told his new club’s official website: “I’m delighted and just really pleased the deal got done.

“I had a great time at Birmingham and made some great friends there and the fans were great.

“And we had a bit of success as well.

“It’s a shame the relegation came around when it did and then the manager went and a few of the players have gone but I wish them well.”

He added: “There were a lot of things which attracted me to Wolves.

“I’d like to think I know what the manager [Mick McCarthy] is about – he doesn’t mess around and is straight down the line.

“That’s what I’m about as well and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“I’ve been vocal on the pitch ever since I was at Wycombe and that’s not going to change.

“I also know a few of the boys and can also stay in the area which is good for me and my family.

“And I think Wolves are a club which are hopefully going to go places and I’d like to be part of that.”

Blackpool have swooped to sign former England striker Kevin Phillips on a one-year contract.

The 37-year-old was released by Birmingham City at the end of May after three years at the club.

The veteran told his new club’s official website: “I did a fair bit of work last year for Sky television watching Blackpool when I was commentating. Like everyone else in the country, I enjoyed watching Blackpool play and creating chances. It was exciting to watch and [manager] Ian Holloway is an infectious manager. That was certainly a major factor in me wanting to join Blackpool.

“I’ve scored many goals in my career and I still believe I’ve got many in me. Hopefully I can get on the end of a few of those chances that we create.”
