After being away with England on international duty, Scott Parker has spoken about his move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur, which took place on transfer deadline day.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who reportedly cost Spurs £5m, told his new club’s official website: “It’s evident how much the club has progressed.

“Tottenham have always been a very big club in terms of the players they’ve attracted and the way they’ve played, that certain style of football.

“It’s a fantastic club and over the last few years there have been some very big players here. The club is only going in one direction and I’m delighted to be part of it now. Hopefully I can add something as well.”

The Football Writers Association’s Footballer of the Year for 2010/11 added: “Things have gone really well for me over the last few years, especially over the last year.

“I’ve broken into the England team and last season, although we eventually got relegated, on a personal level I played some of the best football I’ve played.

“My main target is always to keep fit and then to try and force my way into the team here, try to stay in there and help the team as much as I can.

“I hope my qualities, which might be different to other players here, can bring something different to the team and add to it, that we can move up the league and have a good season.”

Birmingham City have signed former West Ham United defender/midfielder Jonathan Spector following his release.

The 25-year-old, who has also played for Manchester United and Charlton Athletic, has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

Birmingham manager Chris Hughton told his club’s official website: “Jonathan is a player who has got experience of playing in the Premier League and as an international for America so he has good credentials. And at 25 he’s at a very good age.

“He is versatile and can play in a few positions. I think he will be a big asset for this club.”

QPR land Gabbidon

Queens Park Rangers have followed up the signings of Jay Bothroyd and Kieron Dyer with that of West Ham United defender Danny Gabbidon.

The 32-year-old centre-half, who has also played with West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City, has signed a one-year contract at Loftus Road.

QPR manager Neil Warnock told his club’s official website: “He’s impressed me in the last 10 days or so that he’s been training with us.

“I think he’s just the type of player we need – a quality defender with plenty of experience.

“I hope I can reinvigorate his career, because a couple of years ago I thought he was one of the best defenders in the country.”

Gabbidon said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s a good Club. Hopefully I can learn more about it in the coming weeks.

“I had a good week with the lads in Cornwall and I’m pleased to have signed.

“My agent spoke to the Manager and he said to come down and train for a week. It went from there.

“He was a big part in me joining the Club. I’ve been quite impressed by him.

“He’s straight talking, which I like. If you’re doing something right I think he’ll be the first to tell you and, if you’re not, he’ll be the first to tell you again.

“As a player, that’s what you want. I was impressed with what he had to say about the Club and what he wants to do this season.

“I think we can do well. The lads showed last season that they’re already confident and hungry to do well in the Premier League.”

He added: “Hopefully I can bring experience to the table having played in the Premier League for a number of years.

“I know the ins and outs of the league, and what’s required.

“There are a lot of good players here already but hopefully, with my ability, I can add something to the team.”

West Ham sign Bolton’s Taylor

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has raided his former club Bolton Wanderers to sign defender/midfielder Matthew Taylor.

The 29-year-old, who has previously played for Luton Town and Portsmouth, moves to Upton Park for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor told his new club’s official website: “This is a great opportunity to come and play for a fantastic football club. This is a big club with a lot of heritage. It is a new challenge for me and obviously I want to be part of something special and, from the outset, it looks like I will find that here.”

He continued: “I have had good conversations with the gaffer, he is such a positive person. I think you can see already the aura around the place and the quality of players he has brought in to add to the players already here.

“From a totally impartial point of view, I couldn’t see anything other than that I was coming to a great football club and wanted to be part of it.”

He added: “It is a huge football club and I want to play my part if I can. There were never any second thoughts about coming here. It is a big challenge for me which I am looking forward to, to be part of helping the team get back up to the Premier League and do that as soon as possible.

“I see this as a very positive move for me. I don’t expect to be playing Championship football for more than one season if I am being totally honest. I just want to get stuck in and start playing. I think it is going to be a great season.”
